About the Department
Olivet College students who wish to enter the teaching profession must complete course work in certifiable majors and minors in addition to education courses meeting the Michigan State Board of Education requirements for teaching certification. The Teacher Education Program at Olivet College, which is designed to prepare quality educators for today and tomorrow, is granted accreditation by the Teacher Education Accreditation Council (TEAC) for a period of seven years, from March 2013-March 2020. This accreditation certifies that the forenamed professional education program has provided evidence that the program adheres to TEAC’s quality principles.

Successful completion of ED 470 Initial Portfolio Seminar
Successful completion of ED 471 IDP
Official transcript from the college or university granting the applicant’s bachelor’s degree and official transcripts reflecting records of any graduate work previously undertaken or

One letter of recommendation from building principal or supervisor (form provided)
