About the Department
Olivet College students who wish to enter the teaching profession must complete course work in certifiable majors and minors in addition to education courses meeting the Michigan State Board of Education requirements for teaching certification. Application for Provisional Admission to the
Master of Arts in Teaching Degree Program
Requirements:
- Successful completion of ED 470 Initial Portfolio Seminar
- Successful completion of ED 471 IDP
- Official transcript from the college or university granting the applicant’s bachelor’s degree and official transcripts reflecting records of any graduate work previously undertaken or
completed
- Verification of teaching certificate
- One letter of recommendation from building principal or supervisor (form provided)
- Completion of advisement / request for formal admission form

TEACH Grant Program
Teacher Education Assistance for College and Higher Education
Provides grants up to $4,000 per year to students who intend to teach in a public or private elementary or secondary school that serves students from low-income families.
