About the Department
Olivet College students who wish to enter the teaching profession must complete course work in certifiable majors and minors in addition to education courses meeting the Michigan State Board of Education requirements for teaching certification. See Admission to the Teacher Preparation Program for a detailed explanation of the application process, state test requirements, grade point requirements, and student teaching application deadlines.
See Master of Arts in Teaching for information about the origins and uniqueness of Olivet College's graduate-level program. You also will find entrance requirements, policies and graduation requirements.
You may view Olivet's pass rates for the Michigan Test for Teacher Certification (MTTC) at www.title2.org.
During the 1990s, Olivet College completed a comprehensive review of its educational philosophy and programs. The distinctive outcome of this review is an intentional focus on individual and social responsibility and on character as well as competence. All programs offered through the Education Department are committed to this vision.
