About the Department
Olivet College students who wish to enter the teaching profession must complete course work in certifiable majors and minors in addition to education courses meeting the Michigan State Board of Education requirements for teaching certification. See Admission to the Teacher Preparation Program for a detailed explanation of the application process, state test requirements, grade point requirements, and student teaching application deadlines.

Admission Requirements:
Successful completion of ED 470 Initial Portfolio Seminar
Successful completion of ED 471 IDP
Official transcript from the college or university granting the applicant’s bachelor’s degree and official transcripts reflecting records of any graduate work previously undertaken or
completed
Verification of teaching certificate
One letter of recommendation from building principal or supervisor (form provided)
Completion of advisement / request for formal admission form
