Michael R. Hubbel, director of the insurance program and professor of insurance and risk management, has worked at Olivet College since 1995 and from 1985-89. Hubbel was the first full-time director of the college's insurance program. His responsibilities include teaching undergraduate insurance and risk management courses, professional seminar development, writing and consulting. Hubbel began working in the insurance field in 1971, specializing in the areas of research and product development, education and government relations.

He earned a bachelor's degree in risk and insurance from Michigan State University, and a MBA in risk management from The College of Insurance in New York. He has earned the Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter designation, as well as the Associate in Risk Management, the Associate in Underwriting, the Associate in Management, the Associate in Research and Planning, the Associate in Surplus Lines Insurance and the Associate in Reinsurance designations from the American Institute for Chartered Property Casualty Underwriters and the Insurance Institute of America. He also conducts insurance and risk management seminars throughout the U.S. and in other countries, and designs online courses for the corporate community.
