Eric A. Wiening is an author, educator, and consultant who has directly contributed to the professional development of an estimated 250,000 students of insurance and risk management. He took his first retirement in June 2003, leaving his position as assistant vice president and ethics counsel after 26 years with the American Institute for CPCU. Subsequently, among other activities, he was an adjunct professor of insurance at The American College for nearly five years. Before joining the American Institute, Mr. Wiening held marketing positions with Aetna Life & Casualty and was home office education and training supervisor for CNA Insurance.

He earned a BA degree from Concordia Senior College and an MS in insurance and risk management from Temple University in Philadelphia. He has earned the Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter designation, as well as the Associate in Risk Management, Associate in Underwriting, Associate in Personal Insurance, and Accredited Adviser in Insurance designations from the American Institute for Chartered Property Casualty Underwriters and the Insurance Institute of America and completed the Thomas A. Edison State College Certificate in Distance Education Program. He has taught live and online insurance and risk management courses for The American College, Widener University, the University of Delaware, the Insurance Society of Philadelphia, the Insurance School of Chicago, and the North American Training Alliance/Quest Training Associates in London. He also writes educational material and designs online courses in insurance and risk management. He is an active member of the CPCU Society and a member of its national ethics committee.
