OLIVET, Mich. -- Olivet College junior baseball player Sean Alexander, of Fenton, and junior women's tennis player Kelsey Singer, of Brooklyn, are sharing Comet of the Week honors for March 28.
Alexander threw a complete game, 1-0 shutout victory over Hope College March 26 in the second game of a doubleheader at Boeve Stadium in Holland. He allowed just four hits, did not walk a batter and struck out eight, including six on called third strikes, in his seven innings. Olivet also won the first game, 2-1.
The Comets host the Flying Dutchmen today to complete the four-game MIAA series. First pitch for game one of the doubleheader is 2 p.m.
Last week, Singer posted a 4-0 record at the No. 3 singles position and teamed with Caitlin LaValley for a 4-0 mark at the No. 1 doubles flights. She won all four of her singles matches in straight sets, and lost only 13 total games. With the wins in singles play, Singer improved her record to 9-1, including a perfect 8-0 record at the No. 3 position.
Olivet will resume its MIAA schedule Wednesday when it hosts Alma College. First serve inside the MSU Tennis Facility in East Lansing is 4:30 p.m.
Olivet's sports information office will select a Comet of the Week throughout the remainder of the 2010-11 academic year. The athlete will be featured on the home page of the athletics Web site at www.olivetcollege.edu/athletics.
