OLIVET, Mich. -- Olivet College senior swimmer Kellen Beckwith of Farmington Hills is the Comet of the Week for Nov. 8.
Beckwith won two individual events and swam on two winning relays, as the Comets lost their MIAA dual meet opener at Hope College Nov. 6.
Beckwith blitzed the field in winning the 100 backstroke and 200 backstroke. In the 100, he stopped the clock in 51.52 seconds, which is the fastest time in NCAA Division III this winter. In the 200, Beckwith finished in 1:56.38.
Beckwith swam the leadoff backstroke leg of the 200 medley relay, and his split was :24.17, while the relay's total time was 1:36.51. He was the second swimmer in the pool in the 400 freestyle relay, and his split (:46.91) was the fastest in the event. The team's total time was 3:12.99.
Olivet has a busy week, beginning Friday when it competes against Ohio Northern University at Hillsdale College at 6 p.m. On Saturday, the Comets host MIAA rival Albion College at 1 p.m.
Olivet's sports information office will select a Comet of the Week throughout the remainder of the 2010-11 academic year. The athlete will be featured on the home page of the athletics Web site at www.olivetcollege.edu/athletics.
