Track and Baseball
OLIVET, Mich. -- Olivet College junior Sarah Caldwell, of Bronson, and sophomore Jay Magro, of Bridgman, are sharing Comet of the Week honors for April 18.
On April 16, Caldwell won the 400-meter run at the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Jamboree for a second consecutive year. Her time of 1:00.42 was just 18 one-hundredths faster than Hope's Sarah Venlet. She holds the school record time in both the 400 and 800.
The Comets return to competition this Saturday, April 23, at the Aquinas College Open.
Magro threw a complete game, 10-inning 1-0 shutout win over Albion College April 14 at the Cutler Athletic Complex in Olivet. He scattered eight hits and struck out four batters. The 10 innings thrown by Magro is the most for an Olivet starting pitcher since 2001.
The Comets are scheduled to play a non-conference doubleheader tomorrow at Oakland University, starting at 3 p.m.
Olivet's sports information office will select a Comet of the Week throughout the remainder of the 2010-11 academic year. The athlete will be featured on the home page of the athletics Web site at www.olivetcollege.edu/athletics.
