OLIVET, Mich. -- The first Comet of the Week for the 2010-11 academic year is Olivet College sophomore Sam Gibson of Battle Creek.
Gibson helped the volleyball team post a 3-2 record during its first week of competition. In the season-opening win at Rochester College Sept. 1, she led the team with eight kills. Gibson followed that performance with 44 total kills at the Kalamazoo College Green Hornet Invitational Sept. 3-4 and was named to the all-tournament team. For the week, she had 52 kills and a .178 attacking percentage.
Olivet opens Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) play tonight at Trine (Ind.) University. First serve inside Hershey Hall is 6:30 p.m. On Friday, the Comets travel to play defending league champion Hope College at 6:30 p.m., and on Saturday, they play their home-opener against Saint Mary's (Ind.) College at 1 p.m.
Olivet's sports information office will select a Comet of the Week throughout the 2010-11 academic year. The athlete will be featured on the home page of the athletics Web site at www.olivetcollege.edu/athletics.
