OLIVET, Mich. -- Olivet College junior wrestler Trevor Tyler, of Roscommon, has been named the Comet of the Week honors for Feb. 28.
Wrestling at 174 pounds, Tyler won his weight class and helped the Comets win the team title at the 2011 NCAA Division III Midwest Regional Feb. 26 at Wabash (Ind.) College. With the championship, Tyler advances to the 2011 NCAA Division III National Championships March 11-12 at the La Crosse Center in LaCrosse, Wisonsin.
At the regional, Tyler was the No. 2 seed. After receiving a bye in the first round, he needed just one period, three minutes, to post a 17-1 technical fall victory over Kurtis Jensen from Case Western. In the semifinals, Tyler won by major decision, 16-6 over Jared Roberts from Waynesburg. In the championship match, he defeated George Markou from Trine, 6-2, scoring all six points in the third period.
Olivet's sports information office will select a Comet of the Week throughout the remainder of the 2010-11 academic year. The athlete will be featured on the home page of the athletics Web site at www.olivetcollege.edu/athletics.
