Chad Wiseman is in his first season as the head coach of Olivet’s men’s soccer program.

Wiseman, a resident of Kalamazoo, comes to Olivet after spending the last six years as an assistant men’s soccer coach at Western Michigan University (WMU), helping the Broncos win the Mid-American Conference (MAC) championship in 2003 and a MAC runner-up finish in 2004. While at WMU, he coached 11 All-MAC players and four players were selected to the All-Great Lakes Region team.

Wiseman has also served as the head varsity girls’ soccer coach at Plainwell High School since 2004. Wiseman led the Trojans to five Wolverine Conference (WC) championships and three Michigan High School Athletic Association District championships. He earned Coach of the Year honors four times from the WC and twice from the district.

Wiseman has served as the staff coach for the Olympic Development Program Super “Y” League Midwest Division and Kalamazoo Kingdom in Portage. His duties have included selecting the top players throughout the Midwest to compete against other U13-U17 age groups. Training camps are held each January and February in Tampa Bay, Fla. Wiseman is responsible for running training sessions and coaching matches.

Wiseman also serves as a staff coach for the Kalamazoo Kingdom, and is involved with the Premier and Super Y League programs. He has coached seven different teams, who have competed in the North American Finals in Tampa Bay each year. In 2005, Wiseman served as the general manager for Kingdom Indoor Center and director of operations for the Kalamazoo Kingdom PDL.

Wiseman holds a “D” soccer coaching license from the Michigan State Youth Soccer Association.

Wiseman was a four-year letterwinner on the men’s soccer team. He served as team captain in 2002.

Tom Oatley is in his first season as an assistant men’s soccer coach at Olivet College in 2009.

Oatley, a physical education major and an earth science minor at Western Michigan University (WMU), was a four-year letterwinner on the Bronco soccer team from 2004-07. During his senior season, he served as the team’s captain. Oatley scored 24 career goals, including a school-record nine game-winning tallies. He was three-time second-team All-Mid-American Conference selection, and in 2005, he earned third-team All-Great Lakes Region honors.

Oatley has also competed in the Premier Development League (PDL) for the last four years. The last two years, he played for the Kalamazoo Outrage, leading them to their first-ever playoff appearance in 2008. In 2009, Oatley was third in the PDL in scoring with 32 points (14 goals and four assists). For his efforts, Oatley was named to the PDL All-Conference team. Before playing for the Outrage, Oatley spent two years with the West Michigan Edge and scored 12 goals.

In 2008, Oatley was drafted by the Milwaukee Wave, a professional indoor soccer team.  He hopes to join the Wave after the completion of the Olivet season this fall. He has also served as a staff coach for WMU soccer camp for four years and also worked with the River Oaks Soccer Club.

“I am extremely excited that Tom is joining our coaching staff this fall,” said Olivet Head Coach Chad Wiseman. “He has a bunch of knowledge and a lot of energy to offer our student athletes.  Tom will primarily be working with our attacking players. He is a real student of the game and has a work ethic second to none.”
