Angela Goodman Head Coach

Angela Goodman will begin her first season as the head men's and women's track & field coach at Olivet College in 2009. She will also serve as the head coach of the men's and women's cross country programs.

Prior to coming to Olivet, Goodman directed and coached major Division I cross country and track & field programs for 14 years. Most recently, she was the director of women’s cross country and track & field at Michigan State University from 1998-2006. Goodman also served as the head women’s cross country and track & field coach at University of Connecticut for two years, graduate assistant track & field coach at Syracuse University for one year and assistant track & field coach at Yale University for three years.

In addition, Goodman was head women’s coach for the U.S. National Track & Field Team at the 2007 Norwich Union International in Glasgow, Scotland. She was also an assistant coach for the U.S. National Team at the 2001 World University Games in Beijing, China, and the 1997 Outdoor World Championships in Athens, Greece.

Goodman earned a bachelor’s degree in child development and family studies from Purdue University in 1988. While at Purdue, she was a four-year letterwinner on the track & field team. In 1987 and 1988, Goodman won the Big Ten Indoor and Outdoor Championship in the triple jump. She holds the Purdue indoor and outdoor record in the triple jump. Goodman was inducted into the Purdue University Women’s Track & Field Hall of Fame in 1994.

Nicole Burford is in her first season as an assistant track and field coach. She also serves as an assistant women's basketball coach.

Prior to joining the Olivet staff, Burford was an assistant women’s basketball coach and instructor of physical education at Kalamazoo College for two years and a graduate assistant at Western Michigan University (WMU) for one year, teaching physical education, and health and wellness classes. Her basketball background also includes serving as a coach and counselor for summer camps at Kalamazoo, Kalamazoo Valley Community College, Michigan State University, Oberlin (Ohio) College, University of Tennessee and University of Virginia. Burford is a member of the Black Coaches Association, Women’s Basketball Coaches Association and Basketball Coaches of Michigan.

A native of Toledo, Ohio, Burford earned a bachelor’s degree from Oberlin in 2005 and completed a master’s degree from WMU in December 2007. While a student at Oberlin, she was a three-year letterwinner on the basketball team and also participated in track and field.

On the basketball court, Burford was a 2005 second-team All-North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) selection, as she ranked among the conference leaders in minutes played (37.9 mpg), assists (2nd, 2.9 apg), rebounding (3rd, 7.8 rpg) and scoring (4th, 15.3 ppg). On the track, she earned All-NCAC honors in 2005 as a part of the second-place 4x100-meter relay.
