Alumni Council Scholarships
Each year the Olivet College Alumni Council awards a number of competitive scholarships to current students who are actively engaged in campus life – both in- and outside the classroom. Following are our 2014 Alumni Council Scholarship recipients:
Joan Johnson Wagner Endowed Alumni Council Scholarship
Chelsea Goodman is a senior majoring in biology. She volunteers for a number of organizations, including Hospice, Hosanna Industries, the Oak Chest, Buddy Walk for Down Syndrome and Relay for Life. She has also raised money for the Christmas Kiddies Foundation. Chelsea is a President’s Leadership Institute fellow, president of Alpha Pi Upsilon medical honor society and a general chemistry teacher’s aide. She is a member of the Global Citizens Honors Program, Student National Medical Association, Sigma Zeta, American Chemical Society and the Gruen Chemistry Society.
Megahn Piper is a senior majoring in biology. Megahn has participated in every Service Day since her freshman year performing jobs such as cleaning the church, baking muffins for the elderly and working at the library. She also recently conducted a 40-hour community service project assisting a teacher at Springport Elementary. Megahn is the secretary of Gruen Chemistry Society, and a member of Alpha Phi Upsilon, Sigma Zeta and the American Chemical Society. She is the organic chemistry teaching assistant, and recently presented at the American Chemical Society national conference.
The Ellyn ’36 and Lane ’40 Breidenstein Endowed Alumni Council Scholarship
Megan LaForge is a junior majoring in insurance and risk management. As an active member of Gamma Iota Sigma, she has served as both the officer of student relations and community service. She serves dinners at the Olivet Congregational Church during special events, plans service events, participates in food drives and reads to local children. She is also a member of Colleges Against Cancer.
Rev. Grafton ’37 and Ruth ’38 Thomas Alumni Council Scholarship
Lucia McNally is a junior majoring in actuarial science. Lucy is the captain of our women’s tennis team and president of Honors Alliance. She is a member of the Engineering Club, Gamma Iota Sigma, Association for Women in Mathematics and the Mathletes. She has organized blood drives, volunteered as a math tutor and participates in Relay for Life. In her spare time, Lucy likes to participate in intramural soccer, volleyball and basketball.
