Global Citizen Honors Program
Members of the Global Citizen Honors Program (GCHP) at Olivet College are provided opportunities to investigate global, interdisciplinary issues by inquiring into the theories and philosophical underpinnings of complex social issues. The program is experiential, requiring members to be involved not only with the problems they are investigating but with each other and the world around them. GCHP is designed for the student who wishes to continue demonstrating creativity and leadership within the framework of Individual and Social Responsibility.
In addition to competing for a full-tuition scholarship, GCHP members are offered a distinct academic experience, including honors seminar, honors option courses, honors sections of Liberal Arts Core courses, world languages and the Oxford Experience. There are also a host of co-curricular events and opportunities that, taken as a whole, provide a comprehensive academic experience for our members.
Members who complete the GCHP requirements will receive official recognition, including language and/or insignia on your diploma, transcript and commencement program designating you as a graduate of the GCHP.
For more information about becoming a member of GCHP and the academic requirements for participation, please contact Matt Wait, J.D., GCHP director and associate professor of interdisciplinary studies, at 269.749.4187 or via email at email@example.com.
Global Citizens Honors Program Scholarships
Each year, students can compete for various scholarship awards – including a full tuition scholarship and numerous additional scholarships – through an essay contest and interviews with Olivet College faculty. Members participate in an honors-level seminar experience.
The Honors Option
Honors Option courses are taken from the traditional class offerings of the college. The Honors Option is work done above and beyond the traditional requirements for a course.
Honors Sections of Liberal Arts Core Courses
GCHP members can take honors sections of Writing and Rhetoric I and II and Civilization Studies.
Members will complete a world languages course for honors credit.
Members are eligible to participate in the Oxford Experience at Oxford University in the United Kingdom. Members would participate in an on-campus course taught by an Olivet College faculty member, followed by a tutorial with an Oxford professor in your academic area of interest. Participants in this program have full access to Oxford University’s curricular and co-curricular activities. For more information about the Oxford Experience, click here.
