Olivet College Performing Arts Department to host events

The Olivet College Performing Arts Department is hosting a series of concerts and performances on campus throughout the remainder of the fall semester. All events are free and open to the public. The Olivet College Wind Ensemble will perform under the direction of Lisa Furman, assistant professor of music, Sunday, Nov. 6 at 3 p.m. in Mott Auditorium. The musical theatre production, “I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change,” will be held Nov. 18-20 at the Oaks Theatre in downtown Olivet. Friday and Saturday’s shows will begin at 7:30 p.m., and Sundays show will begin at 3 p.m. (This show contains adult situations and language and may not be suitable for some audiences. Discretion is advised.) Students performing include: Sierra Clark, a junior from Interlochen; Cameron Eldridge, a sophomore from Nashville; Mark Gouba, a senior from Novi; Lynette King, a freshman from Lake Odessa; Emily Pieri, a senior from Cedarville; Stephanie Schaffer, a freshman from Nashville; Marla Strickler, a senior from Union; Tyler van Syckle, a junior from Ionia; and Amy Zesiger, a senior from Galesburg. The Olivet College Jazz Ensemble will perform under the direction of Jon Gewirtz, adjunct instructor of music, Tuesday, Nov. 29 at 7:30 p.m. in the Oaks Theatre. Selections include big band and jazz standards. The college’s choral ensembles will present “Rejoice! A Holiday Choral Concert,” Sunday, Dec. 4 at 3 p.m. in the Olivet Congregational Church. The event features excerpts from Handel’s “Messiah,” and other holiday favorites sung by the College Choir, Chamber Singers, Women’s Ensemble and the St. Mary Cathedral Choir, with professional strings and harpsichord. Timothy Flynn, Ph.D., Performing Arts Department chair, Music Program director and assistant professor of music, will direct the ensembles, while Ramona Kime, Ph.D., associate professor of music, will accompany them (piano and harpsichord).
