Olivet College Performing Arts Department announces spring events
Feb 29, 2012
The Olivet College Performing Arts Department is hosting a series of concerts and performances on campus throughout the spring semester. All events are free and open to the public.
The spring schedule kicks off Sunday, Feb. 19 with the annual “Broadway Bound” choral concert at 3 p.m. at the Oaks Theatre in downtown Olivet. Under the direction of Timothy Flynn, Ph.D., the college’s choral ensembles will perform selections from popular Broadway shows by Stephen Sondheim, Andrew Lloyd Webber and others. Ramona Kime, Ph.D., associate professor of music, will accompany the students.
The Wind Ensemble will perform Tuesday, Feb. 21, and Tuesday, April 10 at 7:30 p.m. in Mott Auditorium. Both concerts are directed by Lisa Furman, assistant professor of music.
Richard O’Brien’s “Rocky Horror Show” invades Olivet Friday, March 30 to Sunday, April 1 at the Oaks Theatre. This show contains adult themes and language and it is not appropriate for all audiences. While the audience is encouraged to come dressed as their favorite character, this show is not interactive out of respect for the actors and the venue. Performances begin at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 3 p.m. Sunday.
“Spring Fling!” will be held Sunday, April 15 at 3 p.m. in the Olivet Congregational Church. Under Flynn’s direction, the concert is a celebration of classical choral music for the spring season. Kime will accompany the singers.
Concluding the season, the Jazz Band will perform Tuesday, April 17 at 7:30 p.m. in the Oaks Theatre. Jon Gewirtz, adjunct instructor of music, will direct the students.
