Olivet College to host Women of Color Luncheon
Feb 02, 2012

In celebration of Black History Month, Olivet College is hosting its annual Women of Color Luncheon Wednesday, Feb. 15 at 12:15 p.m. in the college’s Oaks Dining Hall. The luncheon, which features Dayna LePlatte, M.D., psychiatry resident at the University of Michigan (U of M) Health System, is sponsored by Olivet’s Betsy Dole Women’s Resource Center.

LePlatte will discuss her journey into the sciences, which includes graduating from the U of M with a Bachelor of Science in cellular and molecular biology; attending the university’s Women in Science and Engineering Residence Program; and her current position as a psychiatry resident at the U of M. She will also talk about her research on various clinical interests, including women’s mental health, child and adolescent psychiatry, preventive medicine, public health, and community based interventions; as well as the methods she used to stay motivated to achieve her education and career goals.

This event is open to the public and complimentary tickets may be obtained from Dianne Thomas, director of the Betsy Dole Women’s Resource Center, in the Margaret Upton Conservatory, Room 141, or by calling (269) 749-6638.
