Olivet College to celebrate Founders' Day Feb. 22
Feb 15, 2012
Olivet College will commemorate its 168th year by celebrating Founders’ Day Wednesday, Feb. 22 at 1:30 p.m. in the Olivet Congregational Church. The program, featuring Olivet College President Steven M. Corey, Ph.D., and keynote speaker, Vern Hazard, is free and open to the public. Hazard, a 1983 Olivet College graduate, serves as a leadership consultant for the Flippen Group in College Station, Texas. As part of one of the largest educator training companies and one of the fastest growing leadership development organizations in North America, Hazard works with teachers, administrators, professional athletes, executives and more to foster and support specific skills, behaviors and relationships that clear the way to success. Additional activities during the Founders’ Day ceremony include recognition of students who have shown an outstanding commitment to service and a dedication of the college’s “Lamp of Learning.” Refreshments will be served in the Kirk Center from 3 to 4 p.m. Olivet was founded in 1844 by congregational missionaries led by “Father” John J. Shipherd and was one of the first colleges in the United States to admit women and minorities. In 1859, a state charter was granted, and in 1863, Olivet graduated its first class, which consisted of three women. For more information, call (269) 749-7131. « Back
