Olivet College students to participate in Chemistry Day celebration
Oct 26, 2012
Olivet College students will celebrate National Chemistry Week by participating in the annual Chemistry Day at Impression 5 Science Center in Lansing Saturday, Oct. 27 from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The event is free and open to the public, thanks to a generous donation from Emergent BioSolutions of Lansing. Olivet College students from the Gruen Chemistry Society, a student affiliate chapter of the American Chemistry Society, along with Michigan State University students, Perry High School students and Emergent BioSolutions scientists will assist with the day’s activities. Students will present hands-on activities and demonstrations that investigate the positive impacts of chemistry as it relates to this year’s topic: “Nanotechnology: The smallest BIG Idea in Science!” According to Susanne Lewis, Ph.D., associate professor of chemistry and chemistry program director, Olivet students will be making dry ice rockets, hosting a nanotechnology match game, and making thin film bookmarks using nail polish and water at the event.
