AUBURN HILLS —The LeBron James Show is coming to The Palace of Auburn Hills.
But local coaches Chris Coles and Chris Watz are providing the opening act.
Coles and Watz, in their first season of coaching the Olivet College men’s basketball program, take their team to The Palace on Dec. 28 to play Marygrove College in a 2 p.m. contest.
The college game is followed by the NBA clash between the Detroit Pistons and the Miami Heat at 7:30 p.m., as LeBron James and his world champion teammates take the floor.
Tickets for the college-NBA doubleheader are $55, and include a ticket to a third game when the Pistons host the San Antonio Spurs on Friday, Feb. 8. Purchase the ticket package at www.olivetcomets.com.
The college contest carries a local flavor, with Coles and Watz working the sidelines for Olivet and a trio of area players suiting up for the game.
Coles, a Saginaw native who spent the past five seasons as an assistant coach at Saginaw Valley State University, was hired as the Olivet head coach in April.
Watz was named assistant coach shortly after as Coles brought the former Bay City Western coach on board. Watz led Western to a 67-49 record the past five seasons, taking the Warriors to back-to-back district titles and a trip to the Class A state semifinals in 2011.
The Olivet College roster sports Carrollton product Eddie Rogers and Hemlock’s T.J. Vondette while Marygrove features Bay City All Saints grad Cameron Coburn.
