Olivet College Student Government Association to host inaugural leadership conference
Apr 01, 2013

By Sarah Smith, senior

Olivet College’s Student Government Association is set to host its first ever Leadership Conference, Saturday, April 6. The conference’s registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. in Mott Academic Building; the event will run until 4 p.m. The opening speaker, Theresa Abed, 71st District State House Representative, will start at 9:30 a.m. in Mott Auditorium.

This year the event will be focusing on the values of leadership. This event is to help better prepare students for leadership positions after graduation. Olivet College is striving to create new leaders not only on its own campus but on other college campuses as well.

“Our focus of this conference is to provide the proper tools to be an effective leader,” said Branden Dyer, senior, Student Government Association president. “SGA is trying to make better leaders on our campus as well as in other colleges. Our generation is soon to be the leaders of the world and this conference is Olivet College’s way to prepare students for that responsibility.”

The conference will be open to colleges and universities across the mid-Michigan area, and is free to all attendees. Lunch will be provided by the college. There will be five different break-out sessions for students to attend; some of the topics include leadership organization, running effective meetings and collaboration leadership.
