Olivet College to induct three into Athletic Hall of Fame

Olivet, Mich. Olivet College will induct three new members into its Athletic Hall of Fame on Saturday, Sept. 28. Esther Dykstra Lastacy 92, Robert Ferguson 61 and Leah Woodman will be recognized during halftime of the Comets 1 p.m. home football game against Manchester (Ind.) College at Griswold Field.

A reception and social for the new Athletic Hall of Fame members will be held in the admissions area of Dole Hall at 5 p.m. and will be followed by the induction ceremony and banquet at 5:30 p.m. in Klock Commons, Dole Hall.

Esther Dykstra Lastacy 92 lettered in womens basketball and volleyball during her career at Olivet. She was co-captain of the basketball team as a junior and senior. Lastacy was a four-time All-MIAA performer in basketball and holds both the Olivet and the MIAA record for career rebounds with 520 in 47 MIAA games from 1989 to 1992. Lastacy resides in Holland.

Robert Ferguson 61 earned three letters in football and received honorable mention All-MIAA honors as a sophomore and junior. As a 1958 football player, he helped Olivet break a 29-game losing streak. Ferguson also lettered in basketball. Ferguson now lives in Fort Myers, Fla.

Leah Woodman worked at Olivet for 33 years. She was a supervisor in the housekeeping division and served as a mentor to thousands of students, many of whom participated in athletics. During her career and since, Woodman has been a loyal member of the Olivet College Womens Board, serving on many committees. Woodman is a resident of Kalamazoo.
