Olivet College student Branden Dyer organizes Eaton County Sustainable Living Series
Jul 18, 2013

Olivet College senior Branden Dyer, Student Government Association president and Charlotte City Council member, has organized a lecture series about sustainable living for Eaton County. The Eaton County Sustainable Living Series features four speakers, each with a different background relating to sustainable living. Dyer began to organize the lecture series in April. He teamed with Olivet College, the City of Charlotte and Eaton County Conservation District to make the lecture series possible.

The next scheduled speakers are Bill Stough of Sustainable Research Group, LLC, presenting Wednesday, July 31 at Eaton County Regional Education Service Agency, and Andrea Stay of Eaton County Conservation District, presenting Wednesday, Aug. 14 at 6 p.m. at Olivet College’s Riethmiller Blackman Art Building.

Stay’s presentation will focus on low impact development. During the lecture, attendees will get a tour of the LEED-certified Riethmiller Blackman Art Building, as well as a firsthand look at its green construction features. Built in 2010, some of the Green Building principles of the facility include using recycled and locally manufactured construction material, reducing construction waste, increasing indoor ventilation, and installing plumbing fixtures that improve water efficiency, as well as an energy-efficient heating and air conditioning system.

The lecture series is free and open to the public.
