Olivet College to celebrate Homecoming Oct. 11-12

Olivet College students, alumni, employees and friends will celebrate the “Sights and Sounds of Olivet” during Homecoming Friday and Saturday, Oct. 11-12.

Friday, Oct. 11

Friday’s festivities kick off with an alumni art exhibition in the Riethmiller Blackman Art Building’s Kresge Art Gallery; the annual Kappa Sig Golf Outing at Alwyn Downs; Homecoming Golf Outing at The Medalist; a Celebration Luncheon for 1960s alumni; Carillon Concert; and more.

Students, alumni and employees will gather in the College Square Friday at 5:30 p.m. for a campus-wide picnic and celebration. The event will feature the Olivet College Pep Band, as well as games, prizes and a “best banner contest” for student organizations.

At 6:30 p.m. Friday, Olivet College’s 2013 Distinguished Alumni and 1844 Award recipients will be honored with the Athletic Hall of Fame inductees during a combined ceremony at the Cutler Event Center’s Hathaway Court. This year’s honorees include: Distinguished Alumni Rose McKinney-James ‘73 and George Pyne III ‘65; 1844 Award recipient Dennis Daugherty ‘70; and AHOF inductees Travis Lehman ‘03, Bill Telling ‘67 and Louisa (Grill) Trott ‘03.

Friday’s festivities culminate with a fireworks display at 9:45 p.m. at the Cutler Athletic Complex.

Saturday, Oct. 12

Saturday’s events kick off with the inaugural “Under the Oaks 5k Fun Run/Walk,” beginning at 8 a.m. at the Olivet Congregational Church. To register for the race, visit https://runsignup.com/Race/MI/Olivet/UndertheOaks5k.

The annual Red and White Luncheon will be held in celebration of the Kirk Center’s 50th anniversary at 11:30 a.m., and a number of society open houses and reunions will take place throughout the day.

Also on Saturday, the Comet football team will take on Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association rival Hope College at 2 p.m. at the Cutler Athletic Complex. The men’s soccer team is also in action, with the Comets taking on Adrian College at noon at the soccer field.
