Davis to speak as part of Olivet College Lecture and Symposium Series
Jan 10, 2014

Musician, author and lecturer Daryl Davis will speak during Olivet College’s Lecture and Symposium Series Wednesday, Jan. 22 at 1:30 p.m. in Mott Auditorium. The event, which is featured as part of the college’s Martin Luther King Jr. Day programming, is free and open to the public.

“After 148 years of nothing but violence and hatred, it’s time we get to know one another on a social basis, not under a cover of darkness,” explains award-winning pianist Daryl Davis of his extraordinary journey into the heart of one of America’s most fanatical institutions the Ku Klux Klan.

Driven by the need to understand those who, without ever having met him, would hate him because of the color of his skin, Davis has spent his life seeking out the roots of racism and bridging a seemingly uncrossable gap using music. His mesmerizing story, told in gritty words and startling photographs, is both harrowing and awe-inspiring.
