Olivet College appoints four new faculty members

OLIVET, Mich. Olivet College announces the appointment of four faculty members.

Henk Brand of Ann Arbor and Michelle Woodhouse-Jackson of East Lansing, are assistant professors of business administration. Michael Fredericks of Lansing is an assistant professor of computer science. Janine Colby Peters of Marshall, is an assistant professor of mathematics. Brand, Fredericks and Peters formerly served as adjunct professors at Olivet.

Brand came to Olivet from Albion College where he served as a visiting lecturer in the Department of Economics and Management. He previously managed and taught the International Management for Engineers masters in science program between the University of Glasgow Business School in Scotland, and the Leeuwarden Business School in the Netherlands. Prior to that, Brand was employed as a macro and business economist with the ING Bank in Amsterdam, and with the Ministry of Finance and Economics for the Government of Ontario in Toronto. He also taught at the University of Guelph Department of Economics in Guelph, Ontario. Brand earned a bachelors degree in history and political science from the University of Michigan and a masters degree in economics from the University of Guelph. He will be awarded his doctorate from the University of Glasgow in December.

Woodhouse-Jackson most recently served as Director of Corporate Administration and Communication with Complex Systems, Inc., in New York. Her previous work experience includes serving as a marketing and business consultant for Bizjump, Inc., assistant marketing manager for the Millennium Broadway Hotel, and adjunct professor of beginner and intermediate level Spanish for Norfolk State University in Norfolk, Va. Woodhouse-Jackson holds degrees in tourism, hospitality and travel agency management, hotel, restaurant and institutional management and an MBA in marketing and international business.

Fredericks came to Olivet from Lansing Community College (LCC) where he served as the lead academic advisor assisting students with academic program planning and coordinating orientation programs. His previous work experience includes coordinating orientation and peer advising at LCC. Fredericks is also the owner of Frate Productions, which develops, consults, maintains and designs Web sites, print and CD-based learning materials for clients. Fredericks earned a bachelors in business administration, management from Northwood University and a masters in administration from Central Michigan University.

Peters came to Olivet from Kellogg Community College where she was an adjunct mathematics instructor. She has served as a mathematics instructor at Western Michigan University and Lawrence Technological University, formerly Lawrence Institute of Technology (LIT). Peters earned a bachelors in mathematics and computer science from LIT and a masters in mathematics from Wayne State University. She has completed course work towards a doctorate at Wayne State University.
