Banned Books to be discussed at Olivet College
Sep 12, 2003

OLIVET, Mich. Olivet College is hosting a discussion on banned books as part of the colleges Lecture and Symposium Series Wednesday Sept. 17 from 1:30 to 3 p.m. in Mott Auditorium. This event is free and open to the public.

Martha Perkins, Olivets Humanities Department Chair, and John Waite, a senior from Muskegon, will discuss what fuels the impulse to ban books. Readings from texts which have either been banned or challenged over the last 100 years are the focus.

Perkins is also an assistant professor of humanities at Olivet and the advisor to Olivets chapter of Sigma Tau Delta, a national English honor society.

Waite is majoring in English. He is a member of the Olivet College Community Standards Board and a founding member of Sigma Tau Delta.
