Chicago Theological Seminary president to speak at Olivet College

OLIVET, Mich. The Rev. Susan Thistlethwaite, Ph.D., president of the Chicago Theological Seminary (CTS), will be the guest speaker at Olivet Colleges 2003 Clergy Day Wednesday, Oct. 29 from 1:30 to 3 p.m. in the colleges Upton Center. Thistlethwaites presentation, titled War of the Gods, Religion and Violence in the New Millennium, is part of the colleges Lecture and Symposium Series. The event is free and open to the public.

An ordained minister of the United Church of Christ since 1974, Thistlethwaite is the 11th CTS president. She was a professor of theology at CTS for 16 years and director of the Ph.D. Center for five years. Thistlethwaite is the author or editor of 10 books and has translated two different versions of the Bible. She specializes in issues of violence and violation.

Thistlethwaite earned a bachelors from Smith College, a masters of divinity (summa cum laude) from the Duke Divinity School and a doctorate from Duke University.

Olivet College maintains an active relationship with both the United Church of Christ and the congregations of the National Association of Congregational Christian Churches. Clergy Day is a celebration of that relationship and is open to all who are interested.
