Olivet College hosts Christian Youth Conference

OLIVET, Mich.The Olivet College Social Science Department is presenting a Christian Youth Conference Wednesday, Nov. 5 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the colleges Margaret Upton Conservatory Recital Hall. The conference, titled Its not hip to hop on smoking and drinking, is free and open to youth ages 12 to 17 years old.

The conference is an initiative of Olivets Social Science Department. This year, an experimental course titled Christian Counseling I was initiated; within the framework of the class, students were required to plan and implement the conference. Conference attendees will participate in two workshops focusing on the hip-hop image and peer pressure. The workshops are designed to help youth understand these life issues using Christian principles.

Conference coordinators include Amanda Buckley, a junior from Olivet; Karla Gillard, a junior from Stockbridge, Ga.; McKinsey Golfin, a junior from Flint; Ebony Robbs, a junior from Oak Park; Otelia Thomas, a senior from Chicago; and Angela Vines, a junior from Muskegon.

Christian praise dancers, rap singers, youth bands and other musical guest from the area will perform. Refreshments will be served.
