Former president of Ireland to speak at Olivet College

OLIVET, Mich. – Mary Robinson, former president of Ireland, will present as part of Olivet Colleges Lecture and Symposium Series Wednesday, Nov. 12 from 1:30 to 3 p.m. in the Upton Center. Her presentation, titled Human Rights and Ethical Globalization, is free and open to the public. After serving as Irelands first female president from 1990 to 1997, Robinson was nominated by United Nations (U.N.) Secretary-General Kofi Annon to become the High Commissioner for Human Rights. Under this leadership role, which she held from 1997 to 2002, Robinson was charged with integrating human rights concerns into U.N. matters. Robinson currently leads the Ethical Globalization Initiative, which seeks to bring human rights standards into the globalization process and support capacity building in good governance among developing countries. Robinson earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Dublin (Trinity College), and law degrees from The Honorable Society of Kings Inns and Harvard University. « Back
