Olivet College students donate meals to those in need on Thanksgiving
Nov 14, 2003

OLIVET, Mich. Olivet College students have donated more than 1,000 meals off their meal plans to help provide Thanksgiving dinners for the Haven of Rest Rescue Mission of Battle Creek and Olivets Good Neighbor program. The meal will be served Thursday, Nov. 27 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the colleges Kirk Center. Local families and senior citizens are also invited to attend.

Alpha Xi Omega, a fraternity at Olivet also known as Elite, coordinated this first-time event. Through special arrangement with the college and Sodexho, Olivets food service provider, members of Elite asked students to donate meals. The fraternity had an overwhelming response from the colleges student body in just two days.

We are giving up part of our Thanksgiving holiday to break bread with those who may otherwise be unable to do so, said Eric Martin, Elites vice president and a sophomore from Detroit. In an age where desperation seems to be the order of the day, Olivets student body has shown there is still untapped compassion in our world.
