Feb 11, 2004

OLIVET, Mich. Olivet College senior Ron Cole was recently awarded a Michigan Press Association Foundation Scholarship. Cole was one of 10 people from across the state to receive this honor.

The scholarship recipients, who each received $1,000, must show an interest in community journalism and demonstrate journalistic potential.

Cole, a native of Buchanan, is majoring in journalism at Olivet. He is interning with the Battle Creek Enquirer working on arts, entertainment and feature articles. Cole has been a staff member of The Echo, Olivets student run newspaper, since he was a freshman, serving as managing editor his junior year and arts and entertainment editor this year. He was also assistant manager of Olivets radio station his sophomore year. In addition, Cole has served as president of the Kappa Sigma Alpha literary society.

Ron has a solid GPA, is creative, talented, supportive of his fellow students and takes every opportunity that comes to write and learn, said Joanne Williams, instructor of journalism and theatre. He is a dependable, responsible student.
