Olivet College to host “Women in Legal Careers” conference

OLIVET, Mich. Women in Legal Careers is the topic of a conference hosted by Olivet College on Wednesday, March 17 beginning at 8 a.m. in the Upton Conservatory of Music lobby. The event, which is sponsored by the colleges Betsy Dole Womens Resource Center, is open to the public. Keynote speaker Teresa Godwin Phelps, Notre Dame Law School professor of law, will give a presentation titled Gender Issues in the Law, at 1:30 p.m. in Mott Auditorium. Additional conference presenters include Adrienne Busby, litigation associate at Baker & Daniels in Indianapolis; Pamela Devata, labor and employment associate with Seyfarth Shaw in Chicago; and Barbara Tanase, U.S. Attorney in Lansing. A panel discussion with law enforcement officials will round out the schedule of activities. Phelps, who joined the Notre Dame faculty in 1980, is director of the universitys legal writing center. She is chair of the University Committee on Women Faculty and Students, on the editorial board of the Journal of the Association of Legal Writing Directors, and on the gender studies program executive committee.
