Olivet College gearing up for second annual Spring Service Day

OLIVET, Mich. From raking to sewing and painting to planting, Olivet College students, faculty and staff will be making the community a better place to live during the colleges second annual Spring Service Day Wednesday, March 24. On-site registration and continental breakfast begins at 8 a.m. in the Upton Center followed by a kick-off program at 8:30 a.m.

Responsibility Matters is the slogan of the day as the entire Olivet College community is encouraged to participate in volunteer activities. Some of the projects include:


  • Picking up litter, raking and cleaning the campus community

  • Making bluebird houses to hang around the community

  • Volunteering at the SIREN/Eaton Shelter International in Charlotte

  • Spring cleaning at the colleges Mawby Gardens

  • Recovering acoustical panels and sewing curtains for the colleges Upton Conservatory Choir Room

  • Tell a Friend project with the American Cancer Society

  • Adopt-a-Highway cleanup

  • Writing letters to service men and women

  • Spending time with Hospice residents in Charlotte

  • Reorganizing and painting the Oak Chest resale shop in downtown Olivet

  • Yard work and home repairs for an elderly Olivet resident

  • Assisting with Physical Plant projects

  • A canned food drive

  • Repairing and building new distribution boxes for the colleges student newspaper
