Olivet College welcomes three new faculty members

OLIVET, Mich. – Olivet College announces the appointment of three new faculty members. Susanne Lewis of Marshall is an assistant professor of chemistry, John Miller-Purrenhage of DeWitt is an assistant professor of English and Jeananne Nichols of Holt is the director of instrumental studies.

Lewis comes to Olivet from Juniata College in Pa., where she served as an assistant professor of chemistry. She previously taught general chemistry at New Hampshire Community Technical College. Lewis earned a bachelors degree in chemistry from Regis College in Mass. She is working on a doctorate degree at the University of New Hampshire.

Miller-Purrenhage joined the humanities department to teach introductory and upper-level American literature classes. He will also serve as a faculty member in the first-year writing program. Miller-Purrenhage earned a bachelors degree from Kalamazoo College, a masters degree from Michigan State University (MSU) and doctorate in literature from MSU.

Nichols comes to Olivet from Arizona State University (ASU) where she conducted concerts with the chamber winds, wind symphony, wind ensemble and concert band. She directed the mens and womens basketball pep bands and worked on the Sun Devil Marching Band staff. She earned a bachelors degree in music education from Carson-Newman College in Tenn., and a master of music in wind conducting from the University of Tennessee. Nichols is working toward a doctorate degree at ASU.
