Jan 20, 2005

OLIVET, Mich. The Olivet College music program is presenting a faculty recital in the Upton Conservatory of Music Recital Hall Saturday, Jan. 29 at 7:30 p.m. The recital will feature Roger Humphrey, an adjunct instructor of classical guitar at Olivet. The event is free and open to the public.

Humphrey will perform music from the Renaissance to the early 20th century. Joining Humphrey to perform a trio by Joseph Kreutzer, are Lansing residents Michael Fox (clarinet) and Kay Rinker-ONeil (flute).

Humphrey has played guitar for 46 years and taught lessons for 37 years. He has been an instructor at Olivet College since 1987 and has also taught guitar at Alma College since 1992.

In addition to teaching, he is the author of two books, My First Guitar Book, a primer for children, and Guitar Method for beginning adults. Humphrey recorded a recital-type performance called Roger Humphrey Classical Guitar in 1992 and is recording an all-renaissance music CD. He has also composed music for two award-winning documentaries and is listed in Whos Who in America.
