Olivet College theatre program to host "The Vagina Monologues"

OLIVET, Mich.Olivet College students, faculty and staff are performing a benefit production of Eve Enslers The Vagina Monologues, Monday, Feb. 14 at 7:30 p.m. in the Margaret S. Upton Conservatory of Music Recital Hall. The production is being held as part of the 2005 V-Day College Campaign.

Last year more than 1,100 communities hosted V-Day benefits around the world raising funds and awareness towards ending violence against women, said Joanne Williams, Olivet assistant professor of journalism and theatre and event coordinator. This is the second time in three years that Olivet College will present the production.

Event tickets are $10 and can be purchased at the door, or may be reserved by calling (269) 749-6630. Proceeds from The Vagina Monologues will be donated to an Eaton County shelter for families of domestic violence.

The cast includes Laura Barlond-Maas, Carol Breed, Amanda Charbonneau, Norma Curtis, Marie Gouba, Heather Heinrich, Amanda Haxer, Heather Hipkiss, Jennifer Lambarth, Shantell Mathis, Step Marie Martin, Katherine Mestrand, Mariah Mickelwait, Anabel Montalvo, Robin Ostrander, Christina Pascale, Ashley Reim, Kat Roesch, Jenny Shaw, Kat Siegel, Marylouise Stevens, Nancy Van Hoozier, Dayna Vickery and Ashley Wemple.

Anabel Montalvo, a freshman from Detroit, is the student assistant director for the production.

V-Day is a global movement to stop violence against women and girls. V-Day is a catalyst that promotes creative events to increase awareness, raise money and revitalize the spirit of existing anti-violence organizations.
