Olivet College head athletic trainer offers sports injury prevention presentations
Feb 17, 2005

OLIVET, Mich. Janet Tsang, head athletic trainer and chair of the Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Sport Department at Olivet College, is serving as a captain for the Michigan Athletic Trainers Societys Injury Prevention Program. Tsang, together with committee members Brian Bratta, sports medicine team leader at Ingham Regional Medical Center, and Lianna Hadden, staff certified athletic trainer at Michigan State University, will be coordinating and presenting sports injury prevention presentations to local organizations and institutions this spring.

The Michigan Athletic Trainers Society and Michigan Department of Community Health (MDCH) have joined together and produced a series of six different injury prevention presentations. The injury prevention information can be presented specific to the individual sports of basketball, football, in-line skating, soccer and volleyball, or more general to cover prevention of injuries that occur during youth sports.

According to the Michigan Governors Council and MDCH, the participation in sports fosters excitement, fun, fitness and improved health for children, but there are risks when playing sports. The presentations will cover the importance of training, conditioning, using the right equipment, and checking the surface conditions specific to basketball, football, in-line skating, soccer or volleyball.

The injury prevention presentations are available to local organizations, groups or schools, free of charge, from now until May 1, 2005.

For more information or to schedule a presentation time, contact Tsang at (269) 749-7605.
