Olivet College education department chair receives Michigan Campus Compact award
Feb 24, 2005
OLIVET, Mich. Diane Joslin-Gould, education department chair at Olivet College, received the Michigan Campus Compact (MCC) Faculty/Staff Community Service-Learning Award. This is the highest award MCC bestows annually on faculty and staff in the state. Joslin-Gould, of Okemos, was designated by peers as the person who made the most outstanding contributions in the area of community service-learning. This award recognizes the influence on, or engagement of students to be involved in community service or service-learning through modeling, instruction, and/or special projects. Joslin-Gould was formally honored during an awards reception Feb. 17 at Adrian College as part of the Ninth Annual Institute on Service-Learning: Deepening the Commitment to Student Engagement through Quality Teaching. Joslin-Gould has made community service a part of her courses since she began at Olivet in 1997, as an adjunct professor. She consistently raised the awareness and participation level of students in service-learning activities throughout the year. She was recently awarded the Learn and Serve Michigan Intermediate School District-Higher Education Partnership Grant through the Michigan Community Service Commission for the partnership formed between Olivet College and the tri-county (Eaton, Clinton and Ingham counties) intermediate school district. The goal of this partnership is to become a regional service-learning network. MCC is a state-level non-profit organization that promotes the education and commitment of Michigan college students to be civically engaged citizens, through creating and expanding academic, co-curricular and campus-wide opportunities for community service, service-learning and civic engagement. « Back
