Olivet College music program to host guest guitar recital

OLIVET, Mich. The Olivet College music program will host a guest guitar recital Saturday, March 19 at 7:30 p.m. in the Upton Conservatory of Music Recital Hall. The event is free and open to the public.

Brad DeRoche, music faculty member and head of the music department at Delta College, will perform works by Julian Arcas, Napoleon Coste, Joaquin Turina and Owe Walter.

DeRoche is a soloist and chamber musician. He has performed at the Kerrytown Concert House in Ann Arbor, Kilbourn Hall in Rochester, N.Y., and the Midland Center for the Arts in Midland. DeRoche has published articles in the scholarly journal Soundboard and presented seminars at the Eastman Guitar Festival. He conducted the guitar orchestra for the Alexandria Guitar Festival and has begun work on a series of method books for the classical guitar. His first recording La Guitarra, which features the works of Turina, Coste, Arcas and others, will be released in 2005.

DeRoche earned a bachelors degree from Central Michigan University in music theory, masters degree in guitar performance and literature from Eastern Michigan University and doctorate degree in guitar performance and literature from the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, N.Y.
