Olivet College to celebrate Homecoming Oct. 7-9

OLIVET, Mich.Olivet College is celebrating its 2005 Homecoming Welcome Back Comets with a variety of activities Oct. 7-9.

The Homecoming Parade begins Saturday, Oct. 8 at 12:30 p.m. Grand Marshals Richard and Bette Fleming, of Olivet, will lead the parade from Olivet High School to the colleges Cutler Athletic Complex. The Comet football team takes on Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association foe, Hope College at 2 p.m. at the Cutler Athletic Complex. An alumni art exhibit reception will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Barker-Cawood Art Gallery. A number of alumni receptions are also planned throughout the weekend.

Society anniversaries

Two of Olivets Greek societies are also planning events to recognize their anniversaries. The Soronian society is planning a centennial celebration. The society was organized in 1847 and is the oldest collegiate sorority in the continental United States. This year marks the 100th year the society has resided at Sperry Hall.

The Elite society is celebrating its 25th anniversary. The organization was formed in 1980 to celebrate and develop the rewards of academic excellence, brotherhood, cultural understanding and social responsibility.
