Olivet College student newspaper receives state awards

OLIVET, Mich. The Olivet College Echo, a student-run campus newspaper, earned seven awards in the Michigan Press Association College Newspaper Contest. The awards were based on entries published from Jan. 2004 to May 2004, according to Joanne Williams, Echo adviser and assistant professor of journalism and theatre at the college. Echo honors were earned in the category for newspapers published less than weekly. The contest was open to student newspaper members of Michigan Press Association (MPA), and was co-sponsored by the Michigan Collegiate Press Association, an association composed of advisers to the MPA student newspaper members. Contest winners are listed below: 1st place awards Deadline Story – Fire Destroys Local Business by Jason Wright, a senior from Marshall Sports News – Intramural Basketball by Nick Hannar, a senior from Dowling
2nd place award Display Advertising Promotion – ChanceGo Directly to Work for the Echo by Eleni Mitropoulos, a sophomore from Bronson
3rd place awards Black & White ad design – DandiLions by Greg Mason, a junior from Lansing Editorial – Lets Talk About Sex by Allison Choike, a 2005 graduate from Fort Leonardwood, Mo.
