Olivet College teams compete in computer programming contest

OLIVET, Mich. Two Olivet College computer programming teams recently competed in the 2005 Association for Computing Machinery East Central North America Regional Programming Contest. Sixty-five colleges and universities from throughout Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Ontario, Canada participated in the competition.

Olivet teams bettered their previous record by placing 44th and 47th out of 113 teams. This marks the third year of improvement for Olivet College.

Olivets Maniacal Modders team included James Kruth, a senior from Eaton Rapids; David Lewis, a sophomore from Marshall; and Rachel Strelecki, a senior from Sanford. The Raging Remainders team included William Abbott, a sophomore from Flint; James Hall, a senior from Eaton Rapids; and Seth VanHeulen, a sophomore from Grand Rapids.

The teams were coached by Marcus Darden, Mathematics and Computer Science Department chair and assistant professor of computer science, and Michael Fredericks, assistant professor of computer science.
