New Athletic and Recreation Facility
Oct 18, 1999

Olivet College is facing exciting times. Academic, cultural and societal changes have swept the college, making it a national model for educational delivery and institutional transformation in higher education.

Record enrollment, new leadership and national recognition have brought light to our need to transform our facilities in support of our educational goals. The Olivet Plan highlights the importance of student learning that happens outside the classroom. Nowhere is that more apparent than in athletic participation46 percent of Olivet College students participate in intercollegiate or intramural sports.

To support our students, we have removed the 80-year-old fieldhouse and begun construction of a 25,000 square foot facility that will include locker and multi-purpose rooms, classrooms, and support services such as laundry, training room, and concessions.

Adjacent to the locker facilities will be a fieldhouse with an indoor track, tennis courts and practice areas for a variety of sports. The construction phase includes redesigns of the outdoor track and football stadium.

Phase one of the construction, which will be complete in August 2000, is estimated at nearly $3 million with the total athletic complex topping $8 million.
