Olivet College to celebrate Founders’ Day and Church Relations Day Feb. 22

OLIVET, Mich.Olivet College will commemorate its 162nd year by celebrating Founders Day in conjunction with Church Relations Day Wednesday, Feb. 22. The events, which are free and open to the public, include: 10 a.m. Science and Spirituality panel discussion, Upton Conservatory of Music Recital Hall 11:30 a.m. Wreath laying ceremony, beginning in the Kirk Center lobby and proceeding to the gravesite of college founder Father John J. Shipherd 12 to 1 p.m. Luncheon, Oaks Dining Room 1:30 to 3 p.m. Founders Day program, Olivet Congregational Church
The Science and Spirituality panel discussion will include Maria Davis, Ph.D., Natural and Physical Science Department chair and associate professor of biology; Leah Knapp, D.V.M., professor of biology; and Susanne Lewis, Ph.D., assistant professor of chemistry. The panel will be moderated by Hannah Wing Hall, past moderator of the National Association of Congregational Christian Churches. The Founders Day program will feature Olivet College President Don Tuski, Ph.D., and Rev. Linda Jaramillo, United Church of Christ (UCC) executive minister for justice and witness ministries. Jaramillo, a seasoned lay minister and longtime justice advocate, has served in numerous UCC positions. She has been a member and moderator of Ainsworth UCC in Portland, Ore.; moderator, vice-moderator, treasurer and search committee chair of the Central Pacific Conference; member and committee chair of the Executive Council; and assistant moderator of the General Synod.
