OC to host NCAA Div III Golf Championships
Nov 15, 1999

The NCAA has announced Olivet College as their choice to host the “2000 NCAA Division III Golf Championships”. The four-round tournament will be held at Gull Lake Views Bedford Valley Championship Golf Course in Battle Creek May 1518, 2000.

This is truly an exciting opportunity for Olivet College, the community of Battle Creek and the Bedford Valley Golf Course to showcase a big-time event in a first-class way, said former Olivet College athletic director and NCAA Division III golf committee member Dick Kaiser. Over 120 players plus coaches and family will be traveling to the Battle Creek area to spend nearly a week in intense competition. We hope to make each players experience in Michigan one that will be remembered fondly and serve as a highlight in their collegiate golf career.

Battle Creeks Bedford Valley Championship Golf Course is one of Michigans toughest public golf courses. The course was host to the Michigan Open from 1969 to 1978 and beginning in 1996 Bedford Valley became the home for the Michigan Seniors Open. Rated as the 6th best public golf course in 1995 and with a reputation as The Big Course, Bedford Valley tests the skills of every golfer.

Hosting a tournament of this caliber is a great honor for Bedford. The fact that we are the home course for the successful Olivet College golf program says a lot about our golf course and the Olivet program. I believe this will be a big event for the entire Battle Creek area, said Bedford Valley head golf professional Dean Kolstad.

The Olivet College mens golf team has appeared in the NCAA Division III mens golf championships four of the past five years, finishing 15th in 1999.
