Olivet College music program presents “The Last Jam”

OLIVET, Mich. The Olivet College music program is presenting The Last Jam, a special end-of-the-year concert Thursday, April 13 at 7:30 p.m. at the Oaks Theatre in downtown Olivet. The event will feature the Olivet College Jazz Ensemble and OC Drumline and is free and open to the public.

Under the direction of Jonathon Gewirtz, adjunct instructor of music, the ensemble will perform a variety of jazz standards, blues and bebop arrangements by Duke Ellington, George Gershwin and Horace Silver.

The ensemble will feature Annie Bahling, a sophomore from Lachine on trumpet; Bryan Borders, a junior from Battle Creek, on trombone; Sarah Brugger, a junior from Okemos, on piano; Melanie Engels, a junior from Battle Creek, on alto saxophone; David Keeney, a 2005 music education graduate, on drums; David Lewis, a junior from Marshall, on trumpet; Jeananne Nichols, director of instrumental studies and assistant professor of music, on bass; Ian Tuski, a student from Olivet, on guitar; and Jenny Vest, a junior from Homer, on trombone.

Kristen Tait, adjunct instructor of percussion, will direct the OC Drumline in a series of songs by Chris Cockarell. Drumline students include Bahling; Borders; Diana Coronel, a senior from Holt; Mike Haenisch, a senior from Belmont; Johanna Hughes, a freshman from Detroit; Natalie Iacopelli, a junior from Southgate; Michele Michalek, a senior from Stanton; Kayla Mohlman, a senior from Battle Creek; Eunice Oladele, a junior from Nigeria; Robin Ostrander, a senior from Coldwater; Denise Ritzer, a junior from Kalamazoo; Kat Roesch, a senior from Oakland Twp.; Vest; and Andrew Wasson, a freshman from Grand Ledge.
