Shaw named director of athletics at Olivet College

OLIVET, Mich.—Tom Shaw, Olivet Colleges vice president for enrollment management the last four years, has been named the schools director of athletics according to President Don Tuski. A new vice president for enrollment management will be named by June 1, which is when Shaw begins his new duties.
Along with Shaw, the athletic department leadership includes Heather Bateman, who will continue to serve as associate athletic director, and Dominic Livedoti, Olivets head football coach, who was recently given additional duties as assistant athletic director for fundraising.
Under Shaws guidance, enrollment at Olivet has experienced unprecedented growth. When Shaw became vice president in 2002, enrollment stood at 847. Today, total enrollment at the private, liberal arts college is at an all-time high with 1,116 students. This is the third consecutive year Olivets enrollment surpassed the 1,000-student plateau.
Tom and the entire admissions staff have done some outstanding work with increasing our enrollment, said Tuski. Tom is dedicated to Olivet and a true asset to the college. Under his leadership, I am confident the Comet athletic department will continue the outstanding accomplishments we are experiencing with our student-athletes, coaches and programs.
In his new role, Shaw will serve as the chief administrator of Olivets mens and womens intercollegiate athletic programs. His responsibilities include program planning; fiscal and human resource management; compliance enforcement; fund raising; and maintaining effective relationships with students, faculty, staff, alumni and the community.
I am very excited to get back to my athletic roots, said Shaw. Olivet has made great strides in athletics recently and I hope to continue that success.
Shaws background includes serving as director of athletics at Kellogg Community College (KCC) in Battle Creek from 1997-2002. He also worked as a coach and administrator at Olivet for nine years prior to accepting the KCC position.While at KCC, Shaw was named the Michigan Community College Athletic Association Athletic Director of the Year in 1998-99. He also organized numerous National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region XII tournaments and a NJCAA Division II volleyball national championships tournament hosted by KCC.
A native of Royal Oak, Shaw earned a bachelors degree from Olivet in 1988. He was a four-time letterwinner in baseball. Shaw earned a masters degree from Western Michigan University in 1992. His family includes wife, Lory, a 1988 Olivet graduate, and three sons, Turner, Tyler and Tommy.
Olivet offers 18 varsity sports and competes in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association at the NCAA Division III level.
