Olivet College to host affirmative action panel discussion Sept. 13
Sep 07, 2006
OLIVET, Mich. The Michigan Civil Rights Initiative (MCRI) is the focus of an Olivet College Lecture and Symposium Series panel discussion Wednesday, Sept. 13 at 1:30 p.m. in Mott Auditorium. Sponsored by the Office of Multicultural Education and Initiatives, the event, titled Ballot: Benefit or Bogus, is free and open to the public.
In November, Michigan voters will decide whether or not to adopt the MCRI proposal. As written, MCRI would prohibit all state and local government entities from using affirmative action programs that give preferential treatment based on race, gender, color, ethnicity or national original.
Participants include Jennifer Gratz, MCRI executive director, Brandon Jessup, NAACP Youth and College Division president, Max McPhail, MCRI media relations director, and, on behalf of One United Michigan, Lynne Haley, Democratic candidate for the 62nd District of the State House of Representatives.
