Olivet College unveils new guidance counselor scholarship program
Sep 12, 2006

OLIVET, Mich. In staying true to its mission of access and opportunity, Olivet College is offering every high school in Michigan the ability to nominate two graduating seniors to receive the new Olivet College High School Guidance Counselor Scholarship. The scholarship is worth $2,000 a year for four years equaling a total of $8,000 for each qualified student. Enrollment availability is based on a first come, first served basis.

The scholarship program empowers the guidance counselor or staff to chose two responsible seniors who have at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA and 19 or higher on the ACT. One of the selected students must also demonstrate a greater need for financial assistance.

This new scholarship program helps Olivet address some of the issues related to higher education affordability in Michigan, said Larry Vallar, Olivets vice president for enrollment management. For more than160 years, Olivet has been committed to providing a quality private education to a wide-range of students. To help us continue this important mission, we are empowering the high school guidance counselors to nominate students for this unique scholarship program, since they work with the students on a daily basis and probably know them best.
