Olivet College to host jazz band concert Nov. 28

OLIVET, Mich. The Olivet College Jazz Band will present a concert, Tuesday, Nov. 28 at 7:30 p.m. at the Oaks Theatre in downtown Olivet. The concert is free and open to the public. Under the direction of Jonathon Gewirtz, adjunct instructor of music, the jazz band will perform music by Count Basie, Henry Creamer, Duke Ellington, Don George, Dizzy Gillespie, Johnny Hodges, Turner Layton, Harry James, Wynton Marsalis and Richard Rodgers. The band features Annie Bahling, a sophomore from Lachine, on trumpet; Jesse Barber, a freshman from Vandalia, on trumpet; Bryan Borders, a senior from Battle Creek, on trombone; Sarah Brugger, a junior from Okemos, on piano; Melanie Engels, a junior from Battle Creek, on baritone saxophone; Justin Gargus, a freshman from Bangor, on bass; Brant Kortman, a freshman from Alpena, on guitar; David Lewis, a junior from Marshall, on trumpet; Jeananne Nichols, D.M.A., assistant professor of music and director of instrumental studies, on tenor saxophone; Ashley Oliver, a freshman from Ironwood, on trombone; Rob Pulsifer, a homeschool student from Charlotte, on trumpet; Marla Strickler, a freshman from Union, on tenor saxophone; Ben Temple, a freshman from Owosso, on alto saxophone; Jess VanderMolen, a freshman from Eaton Rapids, on trombone; Jenny Vest, a senior from Homer, on trombone; and Blake Walters, a freshman from Olivet, on alto saxophone.
