Olivet College to host holiday choral concert Dec. 3

OLIVET, Mich. The Olivet College music program will present its Make We Joy! holiday choral concert, Sunday, Dec. 3 at 3 p.m. in the Olivet Congregational Church. The concert is free and open to the public.

Under the direction of Timothy Flynn, Ph.D., music program director and assistant professor of music, the Concert Choir, Mens Ensemble and Womens Chorale will perform pieces by Ruth Artman, Johannes Brahms and John Rutter, as well as an American premiere of a composition by British composer, Paul Ayres. The choirs will also perform holiday excerpts from Handels Messiah with a professional string ensemble and guest alumni soloists, alto Tina Bunce, a 1978 graduate from Bowling Green, Ohio, and tenor Timothy LaVasseur, a 1979 graduate from Augusta.

Members of the Olivet College Wind Ensemble will also accompany the choir in a holiday medley of favorite carols by Douglas Wagner. The event will also feature student soloists: Danielle Adams, a senior from Battle Creek; Sarah Brugger, a junior from Okemos; Eleni Mitropoulos, a junior from Bronson; and Curtis Scott, a teachers certificate student from Charlotte. Ramona Kime Graessle, Ph.D., adjunct associate professor of music, will accompany the choirs.

After the concert, there will be a holiday open house at the home of President Don and Louise Tuski, 217 Yale St., Olivet.
